After connecting with RSO and meeting the guys for the first time, I felt that I finally got back a piece of my life that I was missing. I was invited to an RSO veterans hunt by a very good friend of mine about 3 years ago!! He had a lot of good things to say about the hunt itself and the guys that run it! Once there, I settled in, got to know the crew and the other vets that came! Honestly, it takes me a bit to feel comfortable around people I don’t know but I fell right into place!!! After leaving the Marine Corps I struggled to find a sense of camaraderie that I once thrived on, but RSO was instrumental in bridging that gap. Their community, which centered around outdoor adventures provided a space where I could reconnect with like minded individuals who understood my struggle. I never thought I would fill the void leaving the Marine Corps left in me, but I quickly discovered a new brotherhood where that camaraderie was reignited. In my experience they have gone above and beyond to make sure veterans and their families have a phenomenal outdoor experience. When I linked up with them it had been years since seeing many of the Marines I had served with in Afghanistan. At the time I was navigating life post service. It was a time filled with rough waters and dark nights. I willingly admit that the first trip with RSO and the guys I once trusted my life with reignited the fire inside me and I haven't looked back. Through gaining a friendship with SJ Sietsma who introduced me to Josh Wiley and the guys from RSO, I was able to attend an annual hunt with the group. During my time spent with RSO and the fellow Vets I accompanied on the hunt, I realized I had found my tribe among the few that I thought I had lost after transitioning from active duty. This experience is truly humbling and by far the best time I have had in a long time. I can confidently say, after a trip with RSO, I got that missing piece of me back that I longed for. RSO was able to provide an opportunity and experience that I didn’t know I needed. Being able to disconnect and surround myself with Marines I served with and other veterans while having a rifle in hands for several days while hunting and fishing was incredibly relaxing and mentally beneficial. RSO worked hard, unlike any other, to get us on hogs to ensure that we were able to make the most out of our experience. They were unquestionably willing go out as early or stay as late as we could’ve possibly wanted to pursue game.
